A Jinx weekend

I'm back down to Rolfs lake today to fish the Jinx night match
There is a rolling draw for the match today that starts at 4pm but as I am working and don't finish until 4.30pm I won't be at the lake until about 5pm
On the way down to the lake I swung by Asda to pick up some supplies as I am staying in hotel Peugeot over night ready for the Jinx match tomorrow
When I finally pulled into the car park I was surprised to find it was full  and everyone was at their pegs busy setting up ready for the match
I paid my money and drew a peg from the bag there was only 4 pegs left in the bag and I came away with peg 29
A nice easy walk from the car that'll do for me
I soon had my gear on the peg and set up
John and Pauline are putting on a BBQ at about 6pm and we are fishing from 8pm so everyone has time to set up and enjoy the BBQ
My set up is simple today 1 line out in front at 8m

And 1 line on the bush to my right

As I was setting up my neighbour for the night arrived and moved into peg 30

strange thing is when ever I see Jon I always get the urge to check my car keys
I was soon set up and wandered round to the BBQ to get something to eat
I was a bit concerned to see Gemma behind the BBQ flipping burgers

After she set fire to the tent last year I didn't hold out too much hope for the burgers

But I must say they were mighty tasty well done Gem,John and Pauline
Most of the others had erected tents for the over night stay and the tented village had sprung up in the usual corner

The BBQ was soon in full swing and the usual banter and pi$$ taking was in full flow

As 8pm approached everyone dispersed back to their pegs ready for the off

On the bell I shipped a pot of pellets out to the 8m swim and followed them in with a 6mm catmeat soft hooker on the hook and for the next 2 hours I was plagued with foul hooker after foul hooker all of which I lost
I didn't get my first proper hooked fish until about 10.30pm by then it was dark and John had switched the lights on round the lake when I eventually got the fish in the net I decided that it was a weigher so set off up to the scales but as I had forgot to get my head torch out of my bag I couldn't see the scales so I carried them across to the light to read them and the fish went 9lb  back at the weigh station I was trying to find my landing net in the dark so I could return the fish and the now familiar sound of exploding carbon soon signalled it's location as I trod on the landing net handle
Well that's just great! my night is getting better and better
I set off to find John to see if he had a handle I could borrow which fortunately he did and he took mine to see if he could repair it
10mins later John was back with my handle with the broken bit chopped out and telescoped and taped up top man John
I have to say my night didn't get too much better in the last 2hrs I managed 4 small net fish and countless lost foul hookers and when the scales arrived I only managed to weigh 27lb which left just about last and even worse Minxed as Gem managed 3 Carp for 32lb in the first half hour off peg 13 then slept on the grass behind her peg for the rest of the match
Malc won the match with a fine 169lb from peg 8 and Alex put the only other decent weight on the scales from peg 6 with 132lb for 2nd on the night
Most of the rest of us struggled to get any fish in the net with most suffering with foul hooked fish all night

I soon got the kettle on ready for a cup of coffee and got the car ready for a good nights sleep
Just to round my night off it started to rain

Jinx Match 5

Saturday 31st July

I was up at around 7.30am after a good nights sleep in the back of the Peugeot and soon had the kettle on for a cup of coffee the other campers around the site were starting to surface and kettles and frying pans were soon busy
I got my breakfast cooked and eaten then spent the rest of the morning chatting with the other Jinxers waiting for the draw
As everyone was at the lake well before 11.30am Malc got the draw under way early for once
I came away from the bag with peg 32 not too bad a draw as it has had some good weights come off it recently but Dave struggled on 32 in the match last night so you never know

Before I set off to my peg Gemma handed over the Pink Hat that I won last week and as Ade was back today he also had to wear his Pink Hat of shame for the day

I soon had my gear on peg 32 and set up my second short walk this weekend

I have fished peg 32 quite a few times and had some really good days but also some complete mares

My plan today is to fish 3 lines
The first out in front at 8m in line with the blue hose

The next just in front of the bush to my left

And the last over the back of the bush towards peg 33

On the all in I decided not to feed a pot of pellets and just shipped a 6mm catmeat soft hooker pellet out to the 8m swim but the lack of initial feed didn't make a difference as I was soon attached to a foul hooked fish which came off as I shipped it back
From then on I was back to where I left off last night with a foul hooked fish every put in
A swap to 8mm banded pellet made a bit of difference and I started to get a few fish in the net but I was still loosing a fair few fish and the bites were getting further and further apart

Peter on peg 8 was having a bit of mare too with foul hooked fish and fish taking him through the bush trashing his rigs but he was getting a few decent fish too
And had 2 weighers in a row that went 18lb each

I swapped to the swim by the bush and had a run of weighers which was soon broken by a foul hooked fish that broke another of my top kits
I gave the swim over the back of the bush a shot and had a good run of small Carp again until a foul hooked fish trashed my rig as it tore off down the lake towards Peter on peg 8
I went back to the 8m swim and took a few more fish before the final whistle

I packed my gear away in the car and set off round to help with the weigh in
The little lake fished quite well with 4 weights over the magic ton with Peter coming out on top with a section winning weight of 128lbs from peg 8
In B section Dave Collier came out on top with his first Jinx section win with 100lb 04ozs from peg 11
C section was won by Budgie from peg 15 with 130lb and also took first place in the match today
I was last to weigh in and managed to weigh 99lbs 12ozs for 2nd in section
04ozs short of the ton and only 08ozs behind Dave in the section
Today's results leave it tight at the top of series leader board so it's all to play for in the last match
