I'm down at Mill Barn Farm today just outside Southend in Essex fishing with Marsh AC
We are fishing the Reservoir which is supposed to be quite deep and hold some right lumps At the draw I came away with peg 16 I fancied 1 of the lower numbered pegs but word had it that you will catch from any peg but time will tell
Peg 16 looked ok
Although the bank was quite steep behind the peg
And not very pole friendly as even with only 8mts set up my pole stuck out over the track behind the peg
I must make a note to listen out for cars
I decided today that I was going to concentrate on fishing the pellet wag as it's not something that I use a lot and according to the lake owner who stopped by for a chat and to give some advice the pellet wag catches a lot of fish on the reservoir So that's going to be my main approach today fishing the wag out in front at about 25m
I also set up my feeder rod And I plumbed up a couple of pole lines 1 out in front at 8m And another in the left hand margin in the hope that the fish would come into the near side later on in the match
On the whistle things started off real good as I was into a fish first cast fishing a banded 8mm pellet at about 2ft and soon had a Carp of about 1lb 08ozs in the net and for the first 2hours I caught around 20 Carp unfortunately they were all around the same sorta size with the biggest being 2lb whats happened to all these lumps
For the next couple of hours I was unable to buy a bite on the wag I tried the feeder with same result and with the exception of a few silver fish the pole lines were just as quite I took a short walk along the bank to see how everyone else was getting on Which didn't make me feel any better As I came across Terry into a lump
And Al who was bagging up
Colin was also admitting to having a few lumps in the net
Peter was also admitting to a few fish but nothing of any size
Back on peg 16 for the remainder of the match I caught a few more fish on the feeder but still only in the 1 to 2lb range although I did get snapped up twice and they must have been decent fish as they snapped 8lb Maxima like it was cotten I still couldn't manage to get a bite in the margin on the pole though which was weird as both Tony to my left and Graham to my right were both catching lumps in the margin in the last hour Still the whistle went and that was another match over I packed my gear away and before I had a chance to push it back to the car the scales arrived Graham had weighed in 66lb from next door and I was sure I had less than that and the scales soon confirmed it a my fish went 59lb Al on peg 12 took the match win with a fine 92lb All in all it was a good days fishing I was pleased to catch a few fish on the pellet waggler my 59lb was good enough for 7th place if only I could have found a couple of lumps to go with them I might have been up in contention for the frame but thats fishing for ya
Mill Barn is certainly a well looked after fishery and well worth another visit
