Colemans Cottage

 tower_bridge
 Marsh Angling Club

I'm off down to Colemans Cottage in Essex today fishing with Marsh AC

I was up early as usual and set off at 6am for the 2 hour drive down to Colemans
As usual I didn't turn the TomTom on until I got onto the M25 mainly because we seem to have different ideas of the best way from home to the M4 and for some reason the woman won't let it lie and accept my way is better   but as I have the power of the button I win in the end
Anyway I switched the TomTom on but it didn't start up as usual it came up with 1 of the start up screens and froze then re started and back to the start up screen and it seemed to be stuck in a loop
I pushed the reset button but that made no difference it was still stuck in the same loop
Now I have a bit of a problem as I've been to Colemans cottage a few times but I have no idea where it is or even where it's near I know it's round the M
25 then down either the A10 the A12 or the A13 but I can't remember which as I usually just turn off when the sat nav tells me
The 1 thing I can remember is that there is a big sign board that says Colemans Cottage Fishery beside the road just before the turn off for the fishery so all I need to do is find the right road then look out for the sign and I'm sorted
So I formulated a plan as I know the wife gets up at 7am so I'll head towards Essex on the M25 and at 7am give her a ring and get her to fire the pc up and find out which road runs past the fishery

Note to self not a good idea to ring the wife and tell her you've had a serious catastrophe first thing in the morning before she has fully woken up

Still she eventually found the information I needed and and told me the A12 ran past the fishery

Sorted I took the A12 turn off all I needed to do now was look out for the sign board
Now I thought it was only a few junctions after the M25 to the turn off and after I had been past 4 or 5 junctions I was starting to get a bit concerned that I may have missed the turn off but it was only 7.30 and I know it's a 2 hour journey so I still have 30mins to go so it must be further up the A12 so I kept going eventually I came to a section of the A12 that they were digging a few junctions up and had shut the junctions there was road works and mounds of dirt every where and I had the horrible thought that they must have dug the sign up and I had passed it
So I pulled in at the next layby and phoned the wife again to try and find out what junction number I needed she eventually discovered it was junction 22 I needed so armed with this information I pulled out of the layby
and as I rounded the next corner the first thing I spotted was the damn sign for the fishery
Ah well I had made it anyway and soon had the car parked and went into the cafe for a breakfast
Most of the other guys and gals were there already and most had already finished breakfast so I ate my full English and had a nice cup of tea and went outside just in time for the draw
We are fishing on Pathfield lake today
I managed to pull peg 32 out of the bag down the shallow end of the lake yet again I seem to end up in the same area every time we fish here
Still it's going to be a really nice hot sunny day today so as long as I get a few fish I shall be happy
Word has it that the fish are spawning so it may fish a bit hard today only time will tell
The match today is the Annual Marsh Interoffice match and this year the match is being contested by a team from Norwich and 2 teams from London - London A and London B
I'm fishing for the London B team
I loaded my gear onto the shuttle collected my nets and set off to peg 32

Considering how my day had started it was no surprise to see I had managed to draw a peg with no island in front of it

Plan today is to fish 1 line out in front at about 8m where the shelf drops off

Another in the left hand margin

And 1 in the right hand margin

As I set up I could hear the Carp crashing about in the margins so it was starting to look like they would have other things on their minds today

On the all in I shipped a pot of pellets out to 8m and threw a handful into each margin
Then went out to the 8m line with a 6mm catmeat soft hooker pellet on a size 16 B911 hook tied direct to 0.14mm Silstar line under a Jon Walker 0.3g Diamond float set to fish at dead depth after a couple of lifts and drops the float buried and as I lifted into the fish I could tell it wasn't the usual stamp of fish I catch at Colemans this fish had a fair bit of weight to it and when I eventually got it under control I managed to sip the net under a fine looking common of around 8lb
Off to a good start for once I slipped another pellet on the hook and shipped it back out to 8m and dropped it in over my feed a few more lifts and drops and the float buried again and I had what seemed like another decent fish on after a quick battle I slid the net under another common of around 6lb things were starting to look good I slipped another pellet on and back out to 8m and the float buried as soon as it settled this time it was the more usual stamp of fish and I soon a Carp around 2lb in the net
30mins gone and about 16lb in the net happy days
My joy was short lived though as that was my last fish for the next 3hours
I tried both margins I tried all the different hook baits I had with me but all to no avail
looking around  the lake everyone seemed to be struggling with quite a few people walking which is always a bad sign

I did manage to catch a small Barbel from under the airator to my left but he was a loner and I couldn't tempt any more
I was fishing in the right hand margin with a cube of meat on the hook and had the float tight into the edge in the shade from the bush and with about 1hr 30mins to go I saw a swirl by my float and soon after it shot under and I had another 2lb Carp in the net I went back in with a cube of meat on the hook and after about 10mins the float buried again and I soon another fish of a similar size in the net and although there was a long wait between bites I was at least catching a few fish now
looking across the lake to peg 16 Tony who had been struggling to find any fish all
match had started to fish in his margin too and was now catching fish 1 a chuck and he continued to catch at the same rate for the last hour of  the match
I managed a few more fish in the last hour from the right margin and when the all out was sounded I reckoned I had about 30lb in the net
I packed my gear away and went round to help with the weigh in
Dave was first to weigh on peg 2 and took the lead with 45lb and it seemed the top of the lake had fish really poorly as Dave held the lead right round till we got to Tony on peg 16 who took the lead from Dave with 55lb then on peg 21 Kim from Norwich put a fine 68lb on the scales to take the lead and the match win

When we arrived at my peg I managed to weigh 34lb which was good enough for 4th place and I also had a pick up for winning the section - result!
Once the weigh in was done it was back to the cafe for a cold drink and the results
London A won the match with 51 points Norwich came second with 43 points and London B brought up the rear with 41 points

Another fine days fishing with Marsh AC with great weather good company and a few fish
All I've got to do now is find my way home

Once I got home I connected the TomTom up to the computer and restored the program to my last save point and it seems to be working again
No doubt I will find out on Sunday as I'm off to Todber Manor again
