I'm back off down to Kent (Due to local protests framfield is now in Sussex ) again this week this time I'm going to Framfield Fishery just outside Uckfield
It's my first visit to Framfield but I have read a lot of reports about the place and have always wanted to visit So when I saw a post on MFS advertising a match at Framfield I jumped at the chance and got my name down p.d.q and sat back and waited for the months to tick by Unfortunately the guy that was running the match had some sort of self imploding hissy fit and after a lot of dummy spitting and toy chucking disappeared off the scene leaving the match floundering on the rocks Fortunately Pikey (Dave Pearson) stepped in to take over running the match and so it's thanks to Dave that I am speeding my way down through the Kent countryside heading for Framfield with the prospect of a decent days fishing ahead of me Once again the TomTom got me to the fishery without any problems and at 2hours and 6mins not too bad a journey I was the first to arrive so went to have a chat with one of the bivvy boys that was fishing on the lake by the car park while we were chatting all hell broke out over the other side of the lake with a woman screaming then a bloke shouting and the bivvy was bouncing about all over the place according to the guy they had been having a bit of a domestic at the top of their voices since 5am After the lake owner shouted across and asked them to shut the *!$ck up it quietened down a bit who says this speci Carping is a peaceful pastime Any way by this time everyone had started to arrive and we got on with the draw I pulled peg 48 out of the bag I had a quick look on the map to see which side of the lake I had to walk down collected my nets from the hut behind the office and set off round the lake to my peg It was a bit of a walk from the car park but the paths were good and well laid out so it wasn't too difficult and walking round the lakes Framfield certainly looks like a well looked after fishery
Peg 48 certainly looked ok
The only concern I had was I was a bit close to the over head power cables
especially as rain was forecast for today and the last thing you want to be holding when you are near power lines when its raining is a length of carbon pole But I don't intend to be fishing very long today so hopefully I should be ok
plan of attack to day is 1 line out in front at 6m
Another in the left hand margin
And the third in the right hand margin
On the whistle I shipped a pot of pellets out to 6m and threw a handful into each margin then went out over the 6m line with a GOT baits red liver 6mm soft hooker on a B911 size 16 hook tied direct to 0.14mm Silstar line under a Jon Walker 0.3g margin float set to fish at dead depth There certainly seemed to be a few fish about as my float was moving about all over the place and I missed about 4 lighting fast bites on the trot before I eventually connected with 1 but unfortunately it turned out to be foul hooked and after a short battle the hook pulled I decided to swap to meat and on the next put in with a 6mm cube of meat on the hook the float buried and I had a properly hooked fish on at last and soon slid the net under a common of about 1lb 8ozs and I was off the mark at last

Ricky Baxter next door on peg 47 was struggling too with lost fish but Ian the other side of the power lines on peg 49 seemed to catching a few fish I stayed out on the 6m line and although I wasn't sacking up I was getting the odd fish now and a few of them were up around the 2lb mark but there was a long wait between fish it seemed as though after I caught 1 they disappeared and I had to wait for them to come back
The rain eventually arrived so I set the brolly up as there was no wind so no point in getting wet when you don't need too
The 6m line dried up so I swapped to the left hand margin swim and started off with a similar rig to the 6m line with the exception of a size 14 hook instead of a 16 and first put in with an 8mm banded hard pellet on the hook the float buried and I had a 2lb Carp in the net next put in same result and again on the next put in happy days 3 Carp in as many mins It wasn't to last though and the bites soon slowed down but I was at least still catching Ricky on peg 47 swapped to a banded 8mm pellet in the margin too and at last started to catch a few fish but by the look of it his fish were a lot bigger than the ones I was catching as I don't think I had a fish over 3lb all day In the last hour my bites slowed right down a swap back to cubed meat brought me a few more fish but by now I was well behind Ricky who had been bagging in the last hour Ian was still catching well as was Mutley over on the other side of the lake I lifted into my last fish of the day just as Pikey blew the whistle I soon had it netted and got my gear packed away When the scales arrived I managed to weigh 81lb and Ricky just pipped me with a fine 90lb word had it that a few of the local lads round the other side of the lake had decent weights so neither of us would be troubling the frame today But I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the day good fishing good company and a great location
Big thanks to Dave for running the match and if you book another I'd certainly like to fish again
